Having both systems connected two different TVs I figured I'd do a fast review at work. I'm also aware that I may be stating the obvious. I use the 60 gig on my basement HDTV it gets used as an all purpose gaming/Blu Ray player. The 40 gig is in my living room and is mainly a Blu Ray player. The only real difference between the two is that the 40 gig is not BC. The 40 gig is not as loud as the 60 gig and does not shine the way the 60 gig does. The 60 gig has a built in memory card reader and 4 usb slots. The 40 gig has no memory card reader and 2 usb slots. They both are great Blu Ray players and play PS1 games. I also like being able to surf the net on it. If just want a Blu Ray player, don't care about BC having a memory card reader or 2 extra usb slots the 40 gig is a good deal for all you get.

i personally need the extra USB slots, as i have a shit load of USB devices hooked into mine. I have a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo thing, a 8gig flash drive for the backing up of saves and the transfer of movies and crap like that, a USB cable to recharge either my white dual shock or black sixaxis. and the remaining port is for when my friends come over and i need a third controller (or forth if i unplug the USB cable). since im broke, and no one else i know has a PS3... they get the USB PC controllers that i plug into it. as you can see from that i make the most of the 4 USB slots provided to me. occasionally i also use the card reader too...
