I was just about to post this story so I'll put it here. Apparently "non-Indian looking" people were the targets.
----------------
Gunmen have opened fire at a number of sites in the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay), killing at least 78 people and injuring about 200 more.

Police said shooting was continuing and that the incidents were co-ordinated terrorist attacks. Gunmen had taken hostages at two hotels, they said.

At least seven sites have been targeted across India's financial capital.

There has been a wave of bombings in Indian cities in recent months which has left scores of people dead.

Most of the attacks have been blamed on Muslim militants, although police have also arrested suspected Hindu extremists.

On Wednesday, gunmen opened fire at about 2300 local time at sites in southern Mumbai including a train station, two five-star hotels, a hospital and a restaurant popular with tourists.

In the latest developments:

* A group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the shootings, local media say
* Commandos have surrounded two hotels, the Taj Mahal and the Oberoi, where gunmen are reported to be holding dozens of hostages, including foreigners
* A fire is said to be spreading through the Taj Mahal hotel
* A witness told local television that the gunmen were looking for people with British or US passports
* The head of Mumbai's anti-terrorism unit is among those killed, according to local TV
* At least two blasts, suspected to be grenade attacks, have been reported
* The US has condemned the attacks and said it was seeking more information

101 people dead, 6 foreigners.

As day broke in Mumbai, the situation on the ground was still confused with reports of gunfire and explosions at between seven and 16 locations.

The city's main commuter train station, a hospital, a restaurant and two hotels - locations used by foreigners as well as local businessmen and leaders - were among those places caught up in the violence.

Commandos have surrounded the two hotels, the Taj Mahal Palace and the Oberoi Trident, where it is believed that the armed men are holding dozens of hostages.

In other developments:

• Fire crews evacuate people from the upper floors of the Taj Mahal Palace, where police say a grenade attack caused a blaze

• The head of Mumbai's anti-terrorism unit and two other senior officers are among those killed, officials say

• The White House holds a meeting of top intelligence and counter-terrorism officials, and pledges to help the Indian government

• Trading on India's Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange markets will remain closed on Thursday, officials say

Yo. It's amazing to see people concerned over my lame ass. Appreciate that beyond words mates.

I'm not gonna bore you with all the news parts, since if you were interested you could find all of it at CNN-IBN's website (google it) or indiatimes.com or NDTV's site. Biggest broadcasting networks in India, so if anyone's interested, head up there.

On my view on things and some of the local bits;

1. All the t's are between 20-26/28 years of age. Young chaps came in by motor boats, carrying plenty of arms and ammunition. Ak-47's and 'nades.

2. Estimated 20-25 t's all over the place not just the hotels. All heavily trained(we're talking millitary level here folks. International involvement suspected)

3. Over 100 people killed. Still unsure. 200-300 injured. Plenty of hotel staff and some of the best officers of the Indian police force based here in bombay have been killed. Real sad situation.

4. Attack is highly co-ordinated. Although their approach is gonna result in a near total elimination, they plan to take down as many as us with them.

5. Foriegn nationals with British and American Passports targetted along with Israeli's in particular.

It's still going on. At the oberoi Trident hotel, the forces have secured a couple of floors but like I said, the T's have focused their forces on around maybe two or three floors and with excellent tactics and near military precision planning have managed to hold the forces off for hours. (It's a goddamn hotel lobby. Probably the worst place for an aggressive entry since there is just one direction to hold off the fire at.)

24 hours of this incident is just about to finish. It's really a depressing situation for the country.

I did find out one thing that just seemed ludicrous. The T's first arrived at a very famous restaurent called Leopold's which is know as a hotspot for international tourists in mumbai and it's old heritage. They came. They ate and they start firing when asked to pay. It was just the most "huh !?!" moment of the entire scenario for me. Dont know if anyone else will get that.

Personally the indian broadcasting channels are having a fucking ball over it so I've resolved to shuffling between the major local channels and BBC to get a fair idea of whats going on without any of the shit thrown in.

Cheers and will give an update when anything happens.

The origins of the terrorists are being debated right now so who knows. Some people think that they have links to Al queda because of the coordination of the attacks and because they specifically were targeting British and American tourists.Other people say they came from Pakistan though...

Thats what BBC says. Alquaeda because they targeted foreign nationals although that might just be because foreigners are more valuable as hostage's and it heavily strains a countries(mine in this case) relations with those countries whose nationals are killed or injured.

I dont want to point a finger at the Paki's just yet. It's all that finger pointing that has gotten us into such a bad relationship with them in the first place. Their government is trying to help us and I'm sure their under immense pressure due to current state of their economic and international political state of affiars and are under extreme watch.

Operation will be over before dawn on my end. Hopefully I'll get some good news in the morning.

I'm not sure about that but I would guess not. Pakistan just borrowed a shit load of money from the World Bank and has got a spanking new government. They're trying to put things right. The main problem with pakistan is that the military is an entity totally independent of the main Governance. So when the Mlitary starts getting bored with the current rule, they can just storm the parliament and call it a coup de tat. Even when their not doing that, different sections of the military are involved in anti-goverment activities which includes backing terrorists and illegal arms smuggling. We really cant solve that issue since we cant go around inspecting pakistans military.

Basically the point is, I dont feel that we would go to war immediately but if pakistan doesnt clean up the dung on it's plate...

Seriously, I dont wish for war but pakistan has become such a liability to the world, the west and the east that they really have shit on a platter now.

Hey Deus, I saw you on the news yesterday.  Were you one of the guys standing in the street saying Death to Pakistan and that you wanted to fight them?  You looked pretty angry.

Seems like you guys are even more angry at your own government.  I heard they found a couple bombs at the train stations.

Maybe it's a good time for you to come to Canada.
