Why is this crazy? Her daughter being pregnant has nothing to do with anything.

because her mom is the reason she doesn't know about contraception...
I hope she has a STD too, the news of that should be enough to sink her moms ship

Lots of people know about contraception and still get pregnant. She is 17 and more than old enough to know how to not make a baby. Blaming her mom is ridiculous.

I think what Micfri wanted to point out was that Palin is an advocate of "Abstinence Only Education" and her teenage daughter is pregenant. It kind of shows that teaching about contraceptives and smart choices might be a better idea.
The fact that she is pro-life isn't really relavant to this issue.
By the way . . . I think that Palin is a complete piece of shit. She is FAR underqualified to be VP or President. Mayor of a 5,000 person town, Governer of Alaska for 2 years??? Come ON!!! Alaska is an unpopulated wasteland.
And this chick decides to have a child at 44 years and creates someone with Down-Syndrome. The chance of DS is much higher for old hags that try to reproduce.
She didn't even know what a VP's job was just a couple years ago and now she has the chance to be THE VP of the USA.
And, if that old crippled bastard is president (oldest president EVER, btw), there's a decent chance he could die making her president.
Picking her was an attempt to pander to women voters. I hope they know better and vote against McCain/Palin.

the anti-vote is a tricky one
is it possible that they vote for the person they really want but come up with some reason to not vote for the other guy/girl as a clever distraction of their primary decision making process
like... "I'm not racist, I'm voting for McCain because Obama doesn't not have enough foreign affair expierence."
or
"I'm not voting for McCain because can't lift his hands above his head."

Ha ha ha, the reason not to vote for McCain is funny.
And . . . I think Obama made a great VP choice in Biden. he completely destroyed the "not enough foreign affair experience" with that move.
Meanwhile, McCain completely undercut any "experience" related arguments by selecting Palin.

Re: McCain picks who what?!?!

One day I'll figure out why MicFri thinks everyone is racist.
Personally I think the abortion issue is a non-issue. It's never going to change no matter who is in office. The Republicans had both sets of congress and the White House, and Bush was putting in his own judges in the Supreme Court giving it a right swing now, as well as passing every Bill that hit his desk. Only until the Democrats took over did he do a single Veto.
They could have pushed out tons of anti-abortion laws, and no condoms, and no day after pill, and allow pharmacists to say "No" to filling drugs, and everything else that folks fear. But they didn't. They only passed that stupid law about partial birth abortion. (And I say stupid, because if anyone ever read the legislation regarding Roe v Wade, it was already illegal.) So there was no risk.
Why won't it change? Because the moment the Republicans over-turn Roe, they will no longer have the backing of the religious right. The religious right tends to be working-class and in-many-cases poor. These are typically folks who follow the Democrats (And historically always did until Roe) So the Republicans will NEVER over turn it. Not ever.
So it's a non-issue. It's a fun way to drive up emotions and threaten people and scare their base into voting.
Just like the Democrats will never vote away the right to bear arms. Political suicide. You know how many gun owners there are in this country? Oh the Democrats will talk tough on guns, and propose legislation, but they know it'll fail. They know it'll get knocked out in the courts. That's why they pass the bills. So they can say, "I tried. I tried to get that bill through to stop guns, but damn the courts for blocking it." They had the Brady Bill. Whoop-dee-doo. And they let that one slide and didn't renew the thing, afraid of the voting man's repercussions.
There are many issues like this. They should be ignored, unless you're really passionate about them, and then you can cross your fingers and do the pee-pee dance but shit won't change. It just won't.
With me... I think of it like this.
1. U.S.A. is at war in two countries. Enemy is determined to kill Americans, preferabbly with a large knife while removing the living person's head. Enemy needs to be eradicated. I don't necessarily mean with bombs and bullets. But the fact that Osama Bin Laden is still alive cutting tapes is unforgivable. That guy needs to go, and his band of hoodlums with him.
2. Russia has jumped the shark, and the shit is not over. Scarey.
3. The U.S.A. is broke. We have no money for anything, and we borrow the rest. This needs to be fixed, pronto.
4. Alternative Energy needs a NASA like Government mandate to get done.
5. More protections for retirees, jobs, workers, and the economy as a whole. Neither candidate will do much here, as nobody really understands the market today. But the age of retirement will continue to deepend as the ability to retire lessens, and unless major problems are fixed, we are all doomed to work for the rest of our lives.
Who has the better plan to fix these problems? I don't know yet. I hope that the debates bring these issues up, and not the same issues I mentioned earlier. I want to hear what these people will do in office. I don't care what their plan is for troop removal. The Iraqi Government seems intent on getting us out before Obama or McCain can do anything about it anyway. I don't care about off-shore drilling, or drilling in Alaska. Leave that to the local Governments. If Georgia wants oil platforms on their coast, let them decide. And unlike MicFri, I don't care if Obama isn't black enough. If his politics make sense, that's all that matters. Right now though, I'm voting for McCain because he has no policies that effect me negatively like Obama does.
At the same time though, if the debates are on, and he's acting like an old fart babbling shit and not making any sense, and Obama charms me with his wit and candor, I might change my mind.
But let's get off the crap about Palin's daughter's baby. Who fucking cares? That's not gonna matter to me when I vote, I tell ya that.

What is it again that the VP has to do again. other than attend dinner parties, and stop a senate deadlock by casting a vote that the prez tells him.

Funerals. They attend funerals. I think the fear is that McCain will croak in the White House and Palin will take over and force everyone to stop wearing a condom. I dunno.
Obama could get run over by his kid's learning to drive, and Biden could be in control. I'm sure that'd be really interesting to see him having a conversation with Putin on the Georgia crisis. By interesting, I mean harrowing.

Oh please. At 17 I was fucking my GF with her mom in the house and she never knew it. If people are going to have sex it does not matter where mommy is. I don't know what your point even is. Teens have sex. The only way her mom could possibly prevent this would be to lock her daughter in a cage.

Obama worshipers are just pissed because Sarah Palin has been running the state of Alaska about as long as Obama has been a US Senator. It's both hilarious and sad to watch all of these 'open minded' fools bash a professional woman because she doesn't conform to the typical liberal-feminist ideals.
Obama's mother was 18 when he was born so I guess you can start calling her names and mocking his family. Oh I forgot about the whole immaculate conception thing. My bad!

she is a huge diversion
polls have been going increasingly in the direction of favoring Obama at greater percentages
they thought that they could bring out some one no one knew and that the news would trickle out over next two months while they continue to lie about her
information moves too fast now
it's been 5 days and we know everything
prediction are she will drop out and make way for the next distraction
she also used to be a sports caster

Who told you that crazy nonsense? What do they know about her? That her daughter is pregnant? Dude... Biden was found to plagiarize his 1988 stump speeches, but also papers when he was in law school before he failed. (He got an A in Gym though)
That's way worse on the things that are stupid reasons to drop out over. Having a pregnant daughter isn't one of them. Especially for a VP.
Ronald Regean's son was gay. Cheney's daughter was gay. In the high-court of right wing mentality, both would be worse than having a daugher who is pregnant and getting married.
Seriously... I'm just waiting for Obama to punch Biden in the mouth for interrupting him constantly in interviews. It'll happen.

Palin worked for Jack Abramoff getting tax free money for lobbyists
she also left her home town with a 22 million dollar deficit when she left office, have you seen Alaska's?
She is going to get stomped by Biden in the debates
Obama is going to float like a butterfly sting like a bee when McCain steps up to debate him
polls since they were both the party nominees having been going steadily and more decidedly to Obama
check usa today poll tracker
it's a done deal, McCain gambled and it didn't pay off

Actually, her mommy's never been to Washington. She's been a governor for about ten minutes and before that she was mayor (I think town manager, actually) of a town roughly the size of my basement. And by the age of 17, they should already have a handle on where babies come from.

Dude, polls don't mean much when they are that close. A poll is a guy asking questions on the phone among registered voters. That doesn't mean those people will actually show up to vote. The margins need to be a lot wider than where they are now. The way the Republicans have been so unpopular lately I'd of thought Obama would have a much bigger lead. There's a good chance he'll lose the way things are looking.
Debates... Waiting for debates.
