Obama tells congress to pass the Stimulous Round 2

Modified By Knowledge on 11/7/2008 3:30:14 PM
Well, Obama's first speech today asked Congress to pass the Stimulous round 2.  This is the "give your money to Democrat friends for their support during the election" money give-away I talked about earlier.  We'll see if congress can stomach it enough to try and push it through without Bush stopping it.  It's a clever strategy for Obama because if it doesn't pass, well he can blame Bush and the Republicans.  And if it does pass, he can take credit for it because he asked them to pass it.

It'll be another bill full of pork.  We'll see what it contains once it passes, but given that it'll be Democrat driven, instead  of giving everyone money they'll put the cash into unemployment benefits, give some to States for their own use, and probably put the rest into underfunded areas that they themselves underfunded like the transportation infrastructure.

This will put the light back on Congress and take it off Obama for a little while so he can concentrate on assembling the rest of his staff without the press turkey shoot following him everywhere.

Good strategy for Obama, but will the bill really do anything?  Probably not.  I'll wait to pass judgement once/if they pass it.  It's all on the Democrats now though.  They gotta put up or shut up.  It's their congress, the economic situation is failing, they can either do something or nothing.  Lets see what their something is.

Hmmm, wasn't there a stimulus under Bush when he told everyone to "go shopping"?

Didn't Bush f#ck up so bad that he wanted to give the Wall Street $700 billion of "our money"?

You're starting early, Kevin. The dude isn't even in office lol. But hell, he's doing more work in 2 days than Bush did in 2 years.

Sure except you won't be getting one.  This stim pack is for Government institutions to have.  State Government gets it, transportation projects that are out of funds, and Unemployment benefits.

You pay for it, but you get none of it.  You already pay taxes up the ass for transportation but the Government spent all that money on other things.  So now you get to pay for it again.  With unemployment benefits you will probably see a expansion to how long you can get a check.  I think right now it's around 6 months so they'd make it so people can look for 9 months for a job instead.  As for each State, it depends on where they need the money.

Obama also mentioned something about Ford and GM, as well as little businesses getting hit.  Which seems very republican of him.  But there were no details and that worries me because that typically means they will pick and choose which small businesses get help and which don't.  Probably to cover the riders that will end up on the bill that we'll all pay for.

It's standard politics here.  The Democrats are going to send out rewards to their Government friends.  And then later when the new budget goes up, that's when the REAL pork starts to form.

But yea, you...  You and I are getting no check.  Unless you are out of work and can't find a job.  Then you'll get an extra three months to look for one.  Assuming you're collecting unemployment.  Maybe find a job in road construction.  Doesn't seem like they'll be short of funds anytime soon.

Both are bad.  The country is broke.  You don't use one credit card to pay off another.  That's what congress is doing.  They have raised the ceiling on the national debt once, and they are looking to do it again.  Dude...  Right now it seems far away because you don't feel it yet.  But these lower interest rates will weaken the dollar once the other countries rebound. As they won't have the giant debt that we do.  And when the dollar gets weak, we have inflation like we've had on our food for the past twelve months.  And then, if our economy turns around, they'll raise the interest rates.  So you'll be paying a lot more for your everyday purchases.  And your credit card bills and other interest payments will be higher.

The more they spend, the more you will spend.

It gets uglier if our debt becomes worthless.  If we keep spending, it could get that way.

It's like eating to lose weight.  At some point, you gotta tighten your belt and do without.

First off...being a former college football player, i LAUGH at your image Baird.  Look no one wants taxes, but it is a needed evil in our economy.  thanks to the bush econ tax cuts/ corporate tax cuts...we find ourselves in the worst deficeit this country has ever seen...

HOW can you even defend this asshole????????????????  HE f*cked our country so bad...taxes are a necessary evil, and what keep our economy going...

O WAIT...it used to be...until ALLLLLLL job were allowed to transferrred overseas...

BTW...where was the fed when the steel industry went under 30 years ago...

They were allowed to fail...

That set a lot of things in motion...TAXES need to be higher on corps and high income taxpayers...

In my profession, no one pays taxes, which makes me sick, it doenst make sense...

HOW DOES AN ECONOMY SURVIVE WITHOUT TAXES???

My image?  Whatever that means...

The problem with your thought process is that you think nobody is being taxed.  Actually everyone is being taxed rather well in this country right now.  We have very high taxes without many of the social services in similar nations that have similar tax rates.  Maybe not as high as Canada but that's where we're headed.

The problem is spending.  The government spends too much.  Luckily Obama is starting to realize this and intends to chop shit out of the budget rather than raise taxes right away.  If you look at the records on taxation it stifles growth.  Without growth you can't earn more money.  You have to increase growth to generate more revenue which gives you more money.

Unfortunately you think that Bush passed the budget.  Actually that was the Democratic congress.  The President doesn't pass laws.

No one is defending Bush.  He's a bad President.  Will Obama be a good President?  Hard to know.  He's going to pass a 1 trillion dollar stim package to build up massive social services that are Government run.  He'll get that money through taxation and eliminating a lot of Government jobs and probably printing more money.

At least he knows he has to cut spending, unfortunately he'll end up cutting the wrong programs.  Just like Carter did.  I hope he doesn't, but seeing as how he's a Democrat, he probably will.

And NAFTA wasn't Bush.  It was Clinton.  Clinton passed NAFTA.  Clinton removed oversight on the financial industry creating the melt down we have today.

I think giving the Government more money is wrong.  I think they have more than enough money.  They spend it foolishly.  If you want to volunteer to give them more of your money because you think they are going to a better job with it than you can yourself, that's your option.  I don't think they will.  They haven't been able to prove that they can do a good job with what they already have.  So why give them more?

Last time I checked, Bush was President for 8 frickin' years. The shit happened on HIS watch. Look at his piss-poor responses to the economic downfall of America, Katrina, and 9/11.

Yeah, I know that you're sad to see your buddy leave office...with all the great stuff he did for us...

Just because it happened while Bush was in office does not mean Clinton didn't start the problem. You can't be that blind.

So what happens when the next big crash hits? projected for 2011-2013 Where will the money come from then? You can't put a band aid on a wound to your femoral artery. Things have to end to have new beginning. When these huge multinational corporations fail, new ones will rise from the ashes, hopefully learning from past mistakes and things will get better. As long as these companies are being propped up your tax dollars it will be business as usual, until the bottom finally falls out.
On a side note I have a friend who bought 1,000,000,000 iraqi denari's a few months ago. Total cost was about $1000 american. Last week they went up 1 cent. Do the math and you will see he is making out like a bandit. Wish I had a C note to drop  on some denari's.

I guess the war in Iraq and the downfall of civilization is Obama's fault then, since we're passing around blame.

Maybe if Bush would have done his job instead of playing in the sand, maybe we would be in this problem. Are YOU that blind?

This is something that has been building up for longer than 8 years and no one person, political party or administration is to blame for it.

That is 100% true! This has been created by the true shadow government of the New World Order. It is all planned! Bush is simply a fall guy for this mess. Clinton got the order to change the laws that started and allowed for credit default swaps. This all started over 100 years ago, but really got rolling with the inception of the central banking system (Watch this 10 minute movie for a little education Central Banking in 10 minutes) It is all  one big plan to enslave the people of the world financially!. The funniest part is NO ONE GIVES A SHIT!

Joe...  You're a little loopy man.  You should be on Coast-to-Coast talking to Nory about your theories.

Nobody is enslaved to the financial system.  You don't have to buy anything.  You can get a job and live in a tent.  Nobody is stopping you.  You can save your money.  You don't have to buy a house, a car, a TV.  You can use the library and save all your money up for whatever.

Anyway, we have this thing here in Ohio called Amish.  And the Amish have no money.  So you can become like the Amish if you desire.  The nation isn't going to enslave you.
