I just read an article that said they know it's coming, based on Nintendo's R&D Budget which is up to like $370 million a year now.  So the speculation is that there is a new Wii coming plus a new DS.  This is pretty obvious, of course nintendo is working on the next versions of their consoles.

But I was wondering what if anything people would want in a new version of the Wii besides HD?  Does Nintendo have anymore tricks up their sleeves?  I got a little excited but then I got bummed becuase I'm pretty sure it's just gonne be Wii HD?

Nintendo is gonna clean house. Too bad I won't be getting one. If Mario Kart didn't land a Wii in my home, I don't know what will.

So if they just come out with an HD Wii do they make it backwards compatible with the Wii 1 games or Game Cube games?

I think they should skip that stuff because it adds cost, if they just come out with something really slick looking with new games and improved functionality with the online and maybe with the motion sensing plus or whatever they are working on and they can hit the 300 price point.  That would be good.

So much optimism for Nintendo.  It'll be a light upgrade.  Probably add SDHC support to hold more storage than 4gb on a memory card or whatever their limitation is.  Also SDHC is much faster.

Improve wireless.  Larger solid state drive.  I doubt they'll add a mechanical drive, but they might. 

They put the new extra accelerometer chip deal that plugs into the back of the controller inside the controller, and start selling new controllers.

Maybe they increase the speed of Hollywood and Broadway so that they can handle the extra space that HD gives them.

  But if you think Nintendo is working on a new CPU/GPU, we'd know.  IBM/AMD would have to file for FCC approval, and they'd have to file patents.  They'd also release white papers.  Just like they did with Hollywood and Broadway. 

  So if that is going to happen, we'd hear about it.  And then you're still looking at over a year between announcement time and launch time. 

  I would sort of hope Nintendo has a strategy to improve things 1-2 years out.  But thinking about it now is kinda silly.  They could be working on ANYTHING.
