It's the big day! The new 360 makeover is upon us. Anyone gotten to check it out yet? Is LIVE up and running? I am looking forward to the change. Playing Fallout right now so if live goes down it won't affect me. Not looking forward to buying new clothes for my avatar. I don't want to, but I just know I am going to outfit him with all the latest gear. I hope stuff is cheap.

Yeah I downloaded it early this morning. It only took about 3 minutes. I don't know if Live is working because I'm unable to check right now, but I would assume that it is. I read that Ballmer and other Microsoft execs were pissed about the downtime last year so I think they did everything they could to make sure it won't happen again.

I made an awesome avatar that eerily looks like me. I think I'll change it to something much cooler. So far, the update looks really cool. I love the 'party' option.

Well the avatars look much better than the ones on the Wii. I don't know why it's necessary, but it's there. The menu is much better though. The PS3 has a long, long way to go before it catches up.

I just DL'd it a while ago. Seems pretty neat so far. I'm not really sure if I like the Avatar thing. It's too Wii'ish for me. At least in the design. However the layout seems to be working well for it.
The one thing I'm really diggin is the Netflix streaming option. That's a huge bonus. I'll have to spend more time on it tomorrow to give a better opinion on the entire thing.

It looks pretty cool.
Microsoft should buy Yahoo! and tie it all up together. They could have an interesting social network going on. Don't get me wrong, I hate Microsoft, but I'm not stupid enough to not see a powerful thing coming.

I downloaded it last night and played around with it for awhile. The interface is very nice and easy to navigate I thought and looks better than the old blade look and feel.
One of the main reasons I was looking forward to it was because of the new Netflix streaming service. I think this is an awesome idea and works very well. However, I am a tad disappointed in the quality of the stream. I was thinking the stream would be on par with HD quality, but it was not. The stream they are sending must be 480p or something. Maybe I was expecting to much? Anyway I think this is a great step in the right direction.

Netflix streams SD and HD movies but to od HD streaming you need to have a really good connection. I think you need something like 5 mb down, but don't take my word for it.

Well, I got the update last night and I think it is 100 times better than the original dashboard. I really like the avatars in the friend list. It's basically just eye candy, but fun none the less. No new information on the screen, but I like seeing the game box of whatever your friend is playing. Again, just eye candy but it adds to the experience.
I experimented with quite a few different avatar combinations. I haven't played a wii in about a year, but there is a shit ton more options to choose from than the wii had at launch. I couldn't find any purchasable items, but that doesn't mean they are not there.
We don't have netflix in Canada so I don't get to try. Guess I have to keep downloading and streaming.
Another cool option is the games from XNA creators. There were about 20 up already, but I could only download 2 of the trials. Got an error message saying to try again later. Probably just a launch bug. There is the potential for 100's of new games with this service and with that many games being created there is going to have to be some gems.
I messed with the themes, and they just seem to look better. You can definately see more of the theme. The menus are seem less intrusive, less clutter on screen.
I guess overall I like it. Avatars are a pointless addition right now. Just something fun to look at. Maybe the future will bring us some cool games to play with them. There is an avatar game blade, but I didn't try any last night. I have heard rumors of 1vrs100 with avatars. Stuff like that could be a good time waster. The XNA games should be really cool. Definately a step in the right direction. About the only faults I found were a little lag switching between menus and the above mentioned unavailable XNA games. I know I sound like a MS fanboy, but I like it alot. Now back to Lich King

To change your theme:
Choose My Xbox then
choose your gamercard, the themes are in that menu, works like the old style from that point.

Pressing the xbox button will bring up the mini blades thing where you can view your friends list and on the dashboard you can view all your friends avatars.

I read that Microsoft might attempt to buy them again since their CEO just stepped down.

Microsoft Should offer like $9 a share for yahoo. They offered $33, 3 months ago and Yahoo told them to stuff it. Jerry Yang thought he could do better. He didn't. Time to suck it up and take whatever you can get. It would have been interesting had the deal gone through to watch Microsoft flail in the wind with no cash.

Granted, I only have a few .mkv files and it's standard def Anime. And the subtitles don't show up when I stream them. So you might want to look into that a little more. : D

MKV doesn't stream for me... I guess it depends on how it was put together.... MKV is a more advanced container than AVI, so i guess it depends.
My MKV's didnt work... ohwell.
