I was talking to Nutman (because that's what I do on Wednesdays) and we were poking around with the idea of having a news section like we have now, but in a different area of the site that would cover Classic gaming news and such.
I realize there is a pretty active scene here.
1. Speed Runs
2. New games for old systems.
3. Emulation news.
4. Old games revisited
5. Little known facts, etc.
But somebody (Or multiple people) would have to post up the stuff they find, and create the news for this section. Is anyone here into that stuff, and/or would they be interested in doing the news for that section? It'd pay the same rate as the regular news writers get paid.
Let me know what you think. This might not get off the ground, but I thought it was a good idea.

Sounds good to me. The Super NES was probably the greatest system ever!

I'd be up for posting news. And I'd love to see what others find. Would there be a Classic Gaming Forum added to the existing list as well? Maybe just one to discuss all the Classic Gaming stuff in?

So Sheep, I'll put you down as a Classic Gaming Writer unless you object. If anyone else also wants to participate, that'd be cool. More than one person doing the news keeps it fresh.
I could add another forum for that purpose but I don't want to add it if it won't get used. So lets do the news section first and then see what kind of activity it gets before broadening the entire site to fit it in.
I'll probably add it this weekend. Just so we're clear, when we say classic we mean anything out of production for at least five years. So PS2 and Xbox would not be classic, but the Dreamcast would be.
Same with PC games. 5 years or older. You can adjust that if necessary, but in-general use the 5 year rule. If someone releases a new PS2 title, that should go on the front page of VGN and not classic gaming.

IM IN !!
I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS SHIT FOR AGES !!! Kevin, I'd even put up a suggestion ages back on the show question of "What do you think would improve VGN ?" about talking more about emulation/casual games/indie titles and retro games in general.
I'm totally interested in things like reviews and news regarding a lot of retro games like a "Great games you never played" kinda thing.

Yes, sir put me down as a news writer. What about classic game compilations, remakes, or updates? Would that be news for the Classic or Regular news?

Hmmm... That's a good question Sheep, I'm not sure. A lot of stuff gets released on Xbox, PS3 and Wii that is classic. So I guess it's classic news, but I want to keep it in one section and not both. So we'd have to agree that classic news is put in the classic section only if it's a re-release or a slighty redone re-release. (Like when they added network features to a multiplayer game.)
But otherwise I think that'd be fine.

I would totally be into doing stuff for PS1. Hell and PS2 except it's still got stuff coming out for it.

I'm totally up for it. I'll submit news/reviews/indie/casual games which deal with retro and so on. Guess that should be right.
Heck, I'm playing PS1 games right NOW !! And just played some LucasArts games a while back.

I was playing Dune 2 a while back from Westwood via Dos Box. That game is still a blast to play.
That game counts as abandonware at this point right. I've seen it up on a couple of those sites. I might just go through some of those and do some reviews myself.

I think a lot of the early westwood games are free now. C&C and Red alert are free.

I know this isn't exactly classic gaming, but I have gotten several higher scores on Metroid Prime Pinball for the DS than the highest score on Twin Galaxies. There's my five seconds of fame. Now I just need to film it and send it in, and I too can get my nerdy, women repelling certificate.
