Mega Man 9 DLC

Mega Man 9 Gets DLC Next Month

Capcom's Mega Man 9, a throwback to the 8-bit days, is getting a taste of 21st-century game economics with downloadable content coming in October.

Five add-ons have been announced so far including two higher difficulty settings, an Endless Attack mode, and a new Time Attack stage. The ability to play as Mega Man teammate Proto Man rounds out the five.

Mega Man 9, developed by Inti Creation, is now available on the Wii Shop Channel, with Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store releases coming later this week. It is expected that the DLC will hit all three platforms.

Details, prices and release dates follow, as reproduced from Wii Fanboy:

  • Endless Attack, October 6, 300 Wii Points: "Test your skills on a stage without end. Try to break the record for getting the farthest. Results will be displayed in the Rankings. Not compatible with Challenges."
  • Proto Man Mode, October 6, 200 Wii points: "Play the game as Proto Man. You can use the shield while jumping. Some of Proto Man's abilities may differ from Mega Man's. There is no story for Proto Man. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges."
  • Hero Mode, October 20, 100 Wii Points: "Play the game with a more difficult level of enemy distribution. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges."
  • Superhero Mode, October 20, 100 Wii Points: "Play the game with a super difficult level of enemy distribution. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges."
  • Special Stage, October 20, 100 Wii Points: "Gives you another Time Attack Stage to try, including a new Boss at the end! Results will be displayed in the Rankings. Not compatible with Challenges."
  • -----------------------------------
So you can pay to play a level that never ends and 2$ for an extra character.  Cool!

Only $1 for a harder difficulty? Wow, what a bargain!

I've never been a big fan, but I'll be downloading it this weekend.

It's sad that the stuff you used to have to work to unlock can be bought. It would be one thing if paying for an unlock was just a shortcut, but requiring micropayments to gradually unlock the game you paid for is bullshit.

Beyond that, there's no point in mastering the game anymore. The people who buy Hard Mode won't know what to do with it because they never struggled through the game on Normal.

That said, I will be buying MM9 simply because I'm a fan of the series. I will play though the game a couple of times, and then I will probably delete it from my PS3 because there won't be anything left to do.

I guess the actual game is $10.  Not bad considering it would have cost $50-60 back in the day.  I think they'd have a lot more trouble selling the dlc if the game was $15-20, which is not unheard of for Xbl and Wii VC games.  I'll probably skip it since I'm not a huge fan of dying constantly and falling in pits, I'd rather pick up the Mega Man X collection for Ps2 for about 2 or 3 times the price.

Mega Man 9 is now available for download on Nintendo’'s WiiWare™ service. It will be available for PS3 owners via the PlayStation Network on Sept. 25, with Xbox Live Arcade getting the game on Oct. 1.

(not sure why that pasted so big...but there it is).  : )

Thats bullshit. They talk this big game about making it for the fans and being true to the "8-bit" spirit but they cant include those things in the $10 game? They wont be getting my money.

Yes, it is.

You can download the demo. I downloaded it, it's ok.
I don't think that I'll buy this game. Playing the demo reminds me that old school games are hard(er) to play lol. I think they took away an ability that MegaMan had and gave it to ProtoMan so that you'd have to buy him in order to use it.

When they release the "newer" MegaMan games that was on the Sega Saturn and Playstation, I'll probably buy that.

Till then, get WipeOut HD. It's worth it.
