That's all fine and well for people who have been playing PC games for a while, but as someone who didn't own a computer until the ripe old age of 18 I don't recognize anything but TOCA.

I suppose if you're a kid it doesn't matter. But there are some good old games out there, especially in the traditional RPG sense. I'm not big on reliving shit action titles unless they were 2D which was rare on the PC. But a traditional RPG that doesn't involve orphans and drum playing bunnies is always welcome. Especially if it doesn't cost $60.

Yea, it's legal. It's all the talk in the industry-press-circles, which is largely dominated by old men like myself, so many are rubbing their hands in delight. You'll hear more as it gets closer to launch. I think the big deal is that a lot of folks have old games that don't work with newer hardware and OS requirements, and these games are now going to work. There is also no more DRM and you can burn it and install it on as many machines as you like, short of mass-distribution of course.
Not that it'd be some gaming mecca either. It's just great to claim some of those old games that were lost.

Ill sign up for that.
I wonder how big a library they will have.
Most games are modded to work with todays hardware by the fan community, like Duke Nukem has a great patch that smooths it all out and enables it to run at sick hi resolutions. But, in situations where games aren't fixed up by fans, this site will be great.

I think it's also good for people who don't want to go track down 5 different mods and stuff to get their game working correctly on Vista/XP at a good resolution.
I just noticed on the site that colin macrae rally 2005 is on there. How is that old...?

Is this another Steam competitor? I hope some other services pick up steam so to say. I feel Steam is too powerful and I don't like some of their practices. Hopefully competition will make the services better. It will be annoying using more than one app for games though. >:(

That I don't know. Supposedly there is no DRM, so I don't think it's like Steam, but since I'm not in the beta I can't say. They do say that you can burn the games on a CD and install it on as many computers as you choose. So unlesss you gotta login first or something, I don't think it cares. Good question though.
The thing is, Steam is like two services. It's a downloading medium for games, and it's an online community like Live. Most places are just doing the downloading and not the community part. I mean, you can get games from the EA On-Demand store, Stardock, and Direct2Drive among others. There are choices there, but Steam is high profile because Valve puts the most effort in it.

So I got in the beta. I haven't officially purchased anything yet though. Too many new games to play. The selection is pretty limited in beta, but there are some good old titles there. I'm gonna pick up Jagged Alliance 2. The Fallout titles are good, but I already have them and can't get the energy up to play through them a second time. But I will get the new game when it drops.
