Wireless keypad for PS3 coming, eight versions in total
|
|
|
MaxConsole: Sony has just confirmed that a wireless PS3 keypad is coming which sits
easily on top of the SIXAXIS and DualShock PS3 controllers. There will
be a total of 8 versions in the PAL market to support different
languages. The device will also have a touch pad feature for mouse
input which should make the internet easier to browse and can be used
in future games!
Kevin: Well with Achievements and the keyboard, maybe Sony will start calling this the PS360? Just a guess.

Unless they really integrate some unique control into the keyboard, why would anyone buy this over just a plain USB or bluetooth keyboard?

It's a tiny keyboard that attaches to the controller. People would buy it so they could type easier sending a message, typing a website, etc. Or perhaps type more conveniently I should say.

I see, I guess I read it too quickly the first time. Are there any mock ups yet for it?

Wait... Where's the forward facing laser cannon? For fuck's sake! How am I supposed to vaporize my neighbors with this thing? Damnit Sony.
On a lighter note, you can hang a jacket from it.

How often do people send text messages on either the 360 or the PS3 anyway? If I need to send a message on the 360 I leave a voice message and on the PS3 the on screen keyboard is enough for my needs.

There is more text entry than just sending texts. Think entering usernames from lack of unified online service. Some games have lobbies with text. There is also a web browser on the Ps3.

I own the snapin keyboard for the 360. (It's lighted!) As it beats using a keyboard. But yea, it's a rare use thing. I'd get this for the PS3 too, but I still need to get a Dual Shock 3. So maybe I'll wait to see if they sell a bundle with this and the DS3 combined. I know, fat chance, but it'd be nice if they did.

There's a web browser for the 360 too.
I can see why this would come in handy. The 360 and Ps3 both support USB keyboards, but those can be annoying to get out and plug in. With the keypads you just snap it onto your controller and you're good to go.

I'm curious about how people with giant ham hands are going to use this.
Does it say how big it is?

Look at the picture above, it's easy to see how it'll snap on the controller and you can visualize how big it basically is.
