Sega today announced a surprising Wii-exclusive game: The House of
the Dead: OVERKILL. The next chapter in the storied series will be a
"pulp horror reinvention" of the classic light-gun franchise, according
to Sega's unveiling of the game, and ship in 2009.
The House of the Dead: OVERKILL will take gamers back to the
beginning of the series, with Special Agent G going on his first
assignment fresh out of the AMS academy. Teamed with hard-boiled
Detective Washington, they are sent to investigate stories of
mysterious disappearances in small-town Louisiana. Little do they know
what blood-soaked mutant depravity awaits them in the streets and
swamps of Bayou City.
Staying true to the classic gameplay, the game will have a new
"grindhouse" look and retro music, while Sega will also introduce some
new melee moves based on movements using the Wii Remote. Using these
new melee moves, players will fight off zombies that get too close with
pistol-whipping and shotgun-butting attacks that will knock jaws off
and smash zombies' skulls.
The House of the Dead: OVERKILL will be released in early 2009.
