Xbox 360 relaunch on sep 25?

It is a rumor, but history has shown us all that Microsoft/xbox related rumors end up being true 99% of the time.
The details:
-Microsoft will run a five hour televised countdown starting at 7PM est leading to the new xbox experience and the software based relaunch of the console.
-G4 will cover it exclusively and Xbox live members can stream it.
Announcements from microsoft:
-Partnership with sirius radio to allow users to access satellite radio for a "modest monthly fee"
-Launch of the Xbox music store
-Microsoft will announce 12 new titles either exclusive or first on the Xbox 360 including Assassin's creed 2, Mass Effect 2, a new Conker game and two new Halo titles.
-Six FREE original Xbox games will be available to download, with Halo being one of them.
Crazy if true...Discuss.

I read about this too, it must be true since there is a lot of info about it. It will probably be good for them, since the Wii is still hard to find and no one can afford the PS3, the 360 should sell well the rest of the year untill Sony drops the price. Maybe they will drop in the new dashboard on this date too.

This rumored relaunch has everything to do with the new dashboard. Thats what the relaunch would be about. The "new xbox experience"(aka new dashboard) and a rebranding of the console.

It makes sense, in that Microsoft was one of the original folks who quit E3 to form their own show, because they felt the money could be spent better. Then they didn't have a show for two years. So now we get a show that is Microsoft centric and about Xbox. Makes total sense, and why not? Nintendo has their Space World thing, and I dunno about Sony but it's probably invite only and requires wristbands, but exists.
They SHOULD promote the $199 360, and feature stuff on how Live has evolved over the past two years. A lot of folk who maybe picked it up at launch, or remember the old Xbox Live, might think it's something other than what it is today.
They just better hope to God that if they are doing this live they don't get an RROD on their demo unit. That'd be the most costly mishap in consumer electronics history.
"Ok guys, we just shit canned everyone at Ensemble. What should we do now?"
"Hold a party for Xbox?"
"Great idea, lets do it!"

I'm gonna call up customer service and bitch if my 360 is still in the shop when all kinds of crazy deals are going on
they are already giving me a month of live but if I miss this launch with deals and shit that's a very special thing and I think I could be entitled to some compensation, no?

Yea, ok, Space World = Nintendo World or whatever Nintendo calls their show of the year. They always have a NINTENDO show. I was just pulling Space World out of my ass, but you know what I'm saying. Microsoft doesn't have a show like that, and now they do.

Ok so I actually didn't know that Nintendo did a show like that anymore. I looked it up and I guess they did do something called a Nintendo world recently(2006). My bad.

It was reported today that this "event" is not happening. Supposedly the guy from G4 called shenanigans.

Party pooper.
I remember the good old days in the 90's when there would be shows and hot chicks at every booth with free liquor. Now it's just no shows and plastic guitars. Great.

The new dashboard looks cool, but if they have a big live event and a couple fun announcements, to me it seems like a waste of time.
just let me download the new dash.. s'all I want.
I wonder about the Sirius thing, I have a lifetime subscription to Sirius, but I assume I still have to pay microsoft for the service to come through the xbox360 right? (dicks)... unless there's a browser then I can just stream it.

I read that M$ is going to reveal a slim 360 that will go on sale next year. I don't know how true that is. I don't think they should show it this early anyway.
It might be true since I think M$ will be prepping for a new next gen console in 2010.
