Regarding A+ certifacation

Modified By Digital Ghost on 9/6/2008 4:05:51 PM
I'm going to fully work on this after I get done going through a propper tech school. I picked up a A+ study book from my local library and and studied parts of a computer I didn't fully understand such as the BIOS and what it's function is. I also learned that hard disk drives use a servo motor to drive the read write head and that the lines on a motherboard that connect all of the componets on the board are called traces.

Anyway, I know I can pass the test with flying colors.

Trust me. Study, Study, Study. Don't assume it will be easy.

I know, the reason I said the last statement in my post, is because of my very good memory.

Don't take this the wrong way, but A+ is the most useless cert. you can get. At least that's my experience.

Die Zeit ist jetzt. Der Platz ist hier.

I wouldn't say it's useless. It's one more tool in the toolbelt and adds something extra to your resume. It might one-up you against the other guy.

It's a good place to start anyway. If you're going into hardware repair, you should then look at OEM certification with folks like HP and Dell (Maybe Apple too) and that can eventually get you into a job at some place like Geek Squad if that's what you want to shoot for.

I studied A+ Cert in my first year of college. It was one of the easiest of all my courses, but only because I knew all the material. Take a class on Systems Analysis and Design if you ever want your brain to leak out of your ears. I'm still suffering through it. I may never complete it. That's how bad it is.

Computer Programming certification is probably the hardest certification and worth the most money. I mean, Lawyers take the bar exam once. Programmers have to get certified every two generations of product release. It's a fucking difficult career.

Hardware certs like the A+ are good if you want to make a couple dollars more than minimum wage working at staples or the geek squad.

Computer programming is where you can actually make a good living.
