Re: Google Chrome

Anandtech has a good article on it.  It's not that fast in all circumstances.  They benchmark it there.  It's about average really.  But it does do some nice things.  It's based on Webkit which is the same base as Safari.

While tempting, the fact that Firefox has plugins makes me want to stick with it.  But it's a good sign that the Android OS might be just as well thought out when it drops.  Looking forward to seeing that.

I haven't tried it yet. Only for Windows not for Linux or OS X yet. I read some article off of Digg saying that the EULA for Chrome wasn't good. Something about anything you do with Chrome, Google owns or something like that. Seems a lot of paranoid people are up-at-arms about it. I'll probably try out Chrome on my XP machine sometime this week.

Duct tape is like the force – it has a light side and a dark side and binds everything together.

gizmodo just did a article on it. they said something about what ever stuff your create with Chrome, weither it be blogs or forum posts, emails, etc... they own what you make with Chrome....

I guess good things come at a high price...

Google apparently took back that creepy EULA that basically said that they own what ever content you create with it (emails, forum posts, blog posts, etc). they claimed that they copy pasted the EULA from other software they make. they have updated it to be less creapy, and say that the update will retroactively work with people who already downloaded it and installed it.

I was about to say... I was about to not use it anymore then I have and uninstall it. I dont want them taking my private messages on myspace, facebook, or email and selling it to some company and taking... and exclusively owning what I create on the internet... that woulda been not cool...

Re: Google Chrome

Been playing with Chrome myself once they straightened out there out of control EULA.

So far it sucks (we'll have to see what it actually does to this post).

I don't like the way that it displays URLS
The lack of a 'File' menu is a big 'ol pain in the ass
No plugin management sucks
No RSS feeds - I'm not going to create yet another Internet account for myself so I can use Google Reader

All it offers is the dynamic tabs which are neat to play with but really offer nothing from a usability standpoint and the fact that each tab runs in its own process which is kinda cool but makes me wonder about what its memory leakage will be like over time.

Re: Google Chrome

You can crash Chrome with a URL and a percent sign.  If a user just hovers over it, it'll crash.  Hopefully they fix that today or something.

Larry, you can hit CTRL-O to open a file.

Faster doesn't always mean it's better.  In most cases, a faster browser means it's not doing something that other browsers are doing.  I can't say that for sure, but seeing as how it's a new browser, it seems likely that part of its speed increase is due to it missing some rendering features.  Probably only matters on like 2% of all websites though.  But once they make it work with the Acid 3 test, it'll be slow like everything else.

I like the home page being a list of last visited pages, except I won't be using it at work where everyone can see where I've been.

Different processes is a good idea to reduce the memory footprint and make it multithreaded cheaply, but if I ever have to kill a process it'll be damn difficult to know which one.

I think it's fine though.  It's not enough for me to switch from Firefox, but I'll keep an eye on it.  With both Apple and Google using Webkit, they'll be sharing each other's code.  So Safari should gain these features as well if Apple adopts them.

so far I like it. It lacks things I like though, but im gonna overlook that because its a beta. I hope they will change it when it becomes final. things I wish for are....

-Themeing (would settle for something that matches the OSes current theme though)

-Show location (a addon for firefox that shows the location of a server and and displays it on google maps too, good if your comming from myspace (which is located in cali) and end up on what looks like login page (but apperently the server of that login page is located in china or russia)... built into google chrome this would make me switch for real)

-aging tabs (a firefox extention, makes the tabs get greyer as time goes by when you are not on them... not neccicery, but looks cool... especialy if your google Chrome theme blends into windows or what ever OS you are using)

-extentions/addons (i guess since i mentioned two things that are addons to firefox that i want standard on Chrome.... I should want addons/extentions as well)

i think thats it...

Chrome does this gay thing where if you're in these forums, and you switch to HTML mode, it takes the HTML and makes shit like $0 in it everywhere. I have no clue why. Obviously they are slugging in something into the HTML as markers and when the RTE goes to edit it, it shows up.

It needs a lot more work. That is all.

Re: Google Chrome

yeah well its in "beta" which for google means it can range from total crap to better than a finished product lol
one of the founders said it was shameful or something that no mac version was out at launch. i can't imagine switching to it tho...
i'm sure it'll have legions of users and create more headaches for web developers who are struggling to write & design for IE5-8, Opera, Firefox and Safari

Well if you like the Rangers, their AHL team "The Hartford Wolf Pack" crushed the Monsters yesterday.

Go Rangers

Lard At:10:49 PM

Only by one point - and Ottawa has more losses. They're doing worse than the Maple Leafs! That's shameful!

Kevin J Baird At:10:45 PM

Ottawa is doing better than Colorado though, so don't feel too bad.

Lard At:10:32 PM

I'm embarassed to be an Ottawa fan. They are sucking hard.

Well cool, but I can't think of a hockey question right now either.
