I am thinking of putting the Shoutcast stream back online. It's going to cost me some money, based on how many heads are listening at the same time. Nothing hugely costly, but I want to pay for external hosting rather than deal with the bandwith shortcomings myself.
The Shoutcast stream will be in the 24k mono that we originally had. The reason the bandwith is this low is because it's cheaper, and you can get it on a wide range of devices without buffering issues. Such as the PSP, the iPhone (Even over Edge), Linksys music boxes, and probably a variety of other things that people have that stream a feed.
In addition, we'd be sending the stream out live again when we record.
Plus, I'll put other shows like KD's and Soiled's in rotation on it, and if they want to broadcast live, we can work that out as well.
What I want is a show of hands of people who think they will use this feature. I need to know how many seats to buy. Don't say yes if you don't think you'll listen to it. A 24k mono feed is kinda crappy. So an honest headcount would help. Last time we had less than 5 people listening over Shoutcast when I had the service running. But things have come along now where folks have PSP and iPhone so maybe that number would increase.
So let me know, thanks.

Would the show stream live?

That's part of the plan. I can't say 100% for sure, because I haven't done it yet to see if it'll cause any problems, but that is my intention.
Edit: Just to be clear, the show would stream live, and then after the show is over, the streams would play the shows in a recurring fashion. I'm not sure about scheduling shows to premier at certain times yet. One thing at a time.

Shoutcast is how I first found you guys, and how I actually prefer to listen.
I'd LOVE it if you went back to it. I used to listen to you guys when I worked at Verizon.

Ok, I went ahead and set it up. If Breakdown is the only listener, so be it. I haven't figured out a way to distribute yet, so for the moment, you can enter the URL directly in your player.

At the moment, it's just playing last week's show 08/10/2008. It doesn't sound bad at all really. Those with PSP or other tools are welcome to try it out. If the sound goes dark, let me know, as I won't be checking it all the time. And I have to manually restart it if I reboot the server. Otherwise I might not notice until the next MediSpective recording.
While this is playing an old show, it's actually a LIVE stream. So if there is an Internet disruption between my location and the distribution server, the audio will break up or get choppy. I'm not too worried about that since it's just a 24k feed, but if you hear a lot of choppy sound, let me know. An occasional drop out is normal.

Awesome.
I'm listening to it now, you're right, it sounds decent for the feed.

In case anyone was ever curious. The background music is different in this clip but it was the only one of the drone I could fine. The music in the VGN intro is official.

I tested the Shoutcast stream on the iPhone. I tested it with "Tuner" which is a $6 app that lets you listen to radio stations. We're not listed in the directory, but if you type in the feed and bookmark it, it works fine. If anyone discovers any other apps that can stream the show, let us know. I haven't tried it on Edge yet. When I go for a walk after-lunch this afternoon, I'll see how it does.

I just tested it over Edge, and it works perfectly. The nice thing about a 24k feed is that it can squeeze down even the slowest pipe. You could have a Commodore 64 with a Volks 2400 baud modem and it'd work. Not that the C64 could decompress the mp3 in real time, but it could download the show.
I will try the PSP tonight and see. Supposedly the PSP is a window into the whole Shoutcast network, so hopefully we come up in the search listings. We're listed as Video Game News Radio.

I have created a Shoutcast Redirect.
Instead of going here: http://amber.streamguys.com:4740/listen.pls
You can now go here: http://sc.vgn.us
It's easier to remember. sc for Shotucast, and vgn.us is short and sweet.
Oh, and in the event that doesn't work for you, you can still go to the old link. I can't guarantee every app will accept the redirect.
Peace

So what time will the show start tonight?
I got off early today and I will be listening.

In one hour. 8pm EST. If you try to connect right at 8 and there is no service available, wait about five minutes and try again. I have Shoutcast down atm while I set things up, and if everyone is ready we sometimes start a little late.
Thanks

Hmmm, I've only been listening a few minutes, but it seems to be pretty funny so far. Technical difficulties?
