Overclocking help

Alright so I have a Pentium Dual Core e2180 at 2.00ghz. I wanna get it to 2.60. It should be easy from what ive read about the pentium dual cores, but heres the problem...The front side bus bullshit also affects the memory. So I if I overclock my CPU Ill also overclock my memory which I don't want to do. Is there a way to overclock the CPU and not affect anything else?

Re: Overclocking help

You need to change your multiplier.  So that your ratio is different.  When you overclock the FSB, you start with a multiplier ratio of something like 3:1 or whatever.  That means your RAM runs at 1x the speed, while your CPU runs at 3x.  You then look for the balance between your RAM's max speed and your CPU speed.  You can adjust these ratios to things like 5:2 or whatever, but eventually you just find the sweet balance between RAM speed and CPU speed.

You may have to adjust voltages.  As you increase the speed, the power drain also increases.  This causes the CPU and RAM to say they are working at X speed, but performance will actually be worse because they can't get enough voltage to actually reach those speeds.  So you need to pay attention to the voltage as well and increase slightly when necessary.

Of course, you have to have a BIOS that lets you tweak all that shit, otherwise you're kinda screwed.

Ok. Another question. Whats the downside of doing it with software in windows rather than the bios?

I'm sad that I'm like the only one who isn't a hardcore computer phreak.  Oh well, you guys will help me next time my comp crashes and I need advice, right?  :)

You can try the Windows ones, but I haven't had much luck with them myself.  They just lock up on me.  I've found the bios the easiest route.  I tell ya though, if I was going to go through this again, I'd bring Donn Suesse over and I'd have him sauder on a toggle switch to the bios reset instead of using the jumper, because I must have rest the thing at least 100 times to find the right combination.

will the show be late this week since you have to add the music in on top of everything else that you normally do?

Kevin J Baird At:3:51 PM

Well if you like the Rangers, their AHL team "The Hartford Wolf Pack" crushed the Monsters yesterday.

Master_H At:2:40 PM

Go Rangers

Lard At:10:49 PM

Only by one point - and Ottawa has more losses. They're doing worse than the Maple Leafs! That's shameful!

Kevin J Baird At:10:45 PM

Ottawa is doing better than Colorado though, so don't feel too bad.

Lard At:10:32 PM

I'm embarassed to be an Ottawa fan. They are sucking hard.

Kevin J Baird At:10:31 PM

Well cool, but I can't think of a hockey question right now either.

Lard At:10:29 PM

I watch hockey! NFL sucks balls!

Jedihillis At:10:26 PM

I can't wait to hear this episode. Sounds pretty funny.
