Awesome system that did a lot right but no one cared, great for 2-D fighting games thanks to all the support from Capcom, tried to make playing online easy. Really sucks it got killed off just as it really took off.
It was ruined primarily because of Electronic Art's lack of support. They made a blunder in not supporting it and have admitted as such when they failed to realize decent profits between the fall of the PlayStation and the ride of the PS2. It's one reason why EA just doesn't go exclusive any more.
It was really a good little system, especially with the fact that Sega did deliver on the online game promise long before anyone else did.
I played some good Quake matches on it. Not too laggy, but we switched to cable internet in our apartment and I waited too late to get the broadband modem. Plus it was expensive anyway, IIRC. First game system I bought with my own money I saved during the summer after freshman year of college. I had pre-ordered in May and made sure I had enough for the system and soul calibur.
Edit : Went and looked it up, the broadband adapter was only $50 when it was released. I don't know why I didn't just get it when it came out.
Ah, the Dreamcast. Still one of my favorite consoles ever. I managed to snatch up one of the black Sega Sports branded ones. I agree with you about the EA support. It also didn't help it that the system was easy as shit to pirate games on. Man, the PSO sessions we used to have back then, priceless. They also had the superior version of Soul Caliber.

I remember those days too. Some of my first online experiences were playing Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast. I also think that the Dreamcast with their NFL2K series reinvented football games as we knew them and forced Madden to get off their ass'.
yea, nfl2k was a very fun game. i'm glad i still have my dreamcast.

One pound of slimey greasy gofer guys, mutilated monkey meat, chopped up baby parakeet, french fried eyeballs dipped in dirty kerosene, all in a pool of blood. Oh I forgot my spoon!
