Korg DS-10 Synthesizer

The DS (like the Wii) utilizes an obscure control scheme that naturally has its various strengths and weaknesses. One strength of the DS’s unusual control scheme is that it is perfect for certain irregular games such as Nintendogs, Warioware: Touched!, and Feel the Magic. Perhaps the best use of the DS’s touch screen, yet is not really a game at all; the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer is rather a fully functional piece of music creation software for the Nintendo DS. The depth of features contained in this cartridge is truly amazing, although, it will be nearly impossible for most to experience everything the game has to offer.
The Korg DS-10 Synthesizer’s complexity is its greatest strength as well as its greatest weakness. The amount of customization options available on this synth is astounding considering its price point; it truly is a full blown synthesizer on the Nintendo DS! The Korg-10 allows you to create music by using its two built in synthesizers as well as a drum machine. The title also impressively comes equipped with a KAOSS Pad (a pad that allows you to control a synth simply by rubbing the stylus around the screen). This offers a great alternative to the normal piano setup, as it is far more fun to use.
The Korg DS-10’s interface is the opposite of simplistic and takes a lot of time to get used to. This is the title’s only innate weakness. There are so many different screens and options to go through that many may give up within their first couple of minutes of playing. Luckily the DS’s stylus works great with this title, allowing the user to switch between different menu screens with ease. Warning: Do not get this if you have no musical experience. You need to be at least slightly musically inclined if you want to enjoy this software.
This application’s replay value is exceptionally high, as it is nearly infinitely replayable. The title also contains the best unlockable possible, a great sense of achievement. As one continues to play the game, they improve, in turn making the game more enjoyable. The Korg DS-10 is not only meant for entertainment purposes, as it can also serve to teach one a great deal about music theory. I’ve been in band class for about 8 years myself, and even I was learning things I didn’t know before by using this application.
All things considered the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer is an excellent tool for anyone interested in trying to create music. Although the title takes time to master, the investment is well worth it as even a novice can create an interesting track. If one can handle the complexity of the menus and whatnot, then they have no reason not to enjoy the cheapest synthesizer ever released. At a price point this cheap, there is really no excuse not to try out this application, as it can keep one occupied for months if not years. I recommend this title to people who have an appreciation for music and do not get frustrated easily.
9/10

That would be a good decision. It's worth it. This was kind of a tough review to write because it's not an actual game. I'm glad I managed to sell the title though, it deserves attention.

everyday i learn something new playing with this thing. if you want quick auto-satisfaction, play with the KAOSS pad. You can do decent tracks just by playing around with the stylus without much afterthought.
