Couldn't a project pretty far along be picked up by another company? Or does that never happen in the game industry?

I don't think this was beyond the planning/CGI trailer stage.
I mean look at that plane. How the fuck is it suppose to land when the propellers are lower than the wheels?

even if this was not past CGI and concept, it looked great. what a great game. Ace Combat did not come out on the PS3. The only competition on the PS3 side would of been HAWX.

Yeah I agree that it looked cool and honestly there aren't enough combat flying games out there. Hopefully HAWX is good.

Hey Sheep - when do the props fold up? During flight or *after* you land?

This looks good but if it was shut down it is because the publishers decided it wasn't a viable risk. Which means it was either in the very early stages (which would make development a bit of a gamble), or it was quite far along but wasn't up to snuff.
As for the aircraft design, the clue is in the name. Look up the V-22 Osprey if you want a specific example. It looks like the aircraft in this game were beefed-up versions of real aircraft (not just the wacky imaginings of a concept artist).
