Nintendo sends copy of Animal Crossing to press with racial slur included.

Nintendo sent out copies of 2005's Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS to the gaming press. The reason being that one of the highly promoted features of Animal Crossing: City folk is the ability to transfer your town from the DS game to the Wii game. The copy of the game that Nintendo sent out included a town and character with all sorts of special items and unlockables, but one thing they didn't intend was a(presumably) Nintendo employee that changed an animal's greeting to "Ni**a". So anyone who received this particular copy of the game will have a Sheep named Baabara(hehe, get it?) that walks up to them and says "How are you, Ni**a?".

Nintendo's official response:

"Previously played copies of the 2005 DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World were sent to 14 members of the media to demonstrate the ability of players to transfer items to the new Animal Crossing: City Folk for Wii. We regret that an offensive phrase was included without our knowledge via a wireless function that allows user-generated catchphrases to spread virally from one game to the next. This version is limited to 14 copies created for media review purposes only and is not available at retailers. We sincerely apologize for the incident and are working with media who received the game cards to return them to Nintendo immediately."

This incident could lead to Nintendo removing such features in future iterations of Animal Crossing or other Nintendo games. However, as mentioned in Nintendo's official response, these copies of the game did not go to any retailer and only 14 members of the media received it so hopefully Nintendo won't overreact. But you never know...
