360 global sales surpass that of the original Xbox.

Earlier this month Microsoft said that it expected the 360 to surpass the Xbox install base by the end of November, and now Microsoft has confirmed that it has. The Xbox 360's global sales have reached 25 million.

Less than a week ago Microsoft also announced that the Xbox 360 has sold over 7 million units in Europe and has been consistently outselling the PS3 there since the price cut. In Japan the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 in monthly sales in August, September, and October.

VP of interactive entertainment business for EMEA(Europe, Middle east, Africa) Chris Lewis told MCV:

“We’ve already surpassed the installed base of the original Xbox – which is a really significant milestone. We’ve been blown away by the appetite of people to consumer digital entertainment experiences."

He added:

“We’re at a price point that is uniquely placed – not least of which because we’re in somewhat of a challenging economic time. Ever since we dropped the price seven weeks ago, we’ve outstripped PS3 on a weekly run rate in all the territories we care about in EMEA – specifically the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Russia.”

25 million? Impressive, but that doesn't mean that there's 25 million xbox gamers. I love Xbox but I've already broken my first Xbox and the one I currently have is on it's last leg. ("Damn you CD drive! Read the blasted game already! WHYYY?")
What I'm getting at is how many of those Xboxs of those were bought because the one before it broke?

I don't know but I doubt that that many people bought a brand new xbox because theirs broke. I think the maximum would be 100,000, but that is very generous imo.
