Ziff Davis considering dropping print version of EGM.

Ziff Davis, the publisher for EGM, is considering dropping the print version entirely and going online only through 1up.com.

This comes only months after Ziff Davis cancelled Games For Windows Magazine and days after dropping its flagship PC Magazine after a 27 year run. The decision to drop EGM will not be made until the end of the year so the magazine is safe for now.

Production costs and loss of advertising were blamed for the cancellation of PC Magazine.

The most telling comment came from Jason Young, Chief executive at Ziff davis. "The viability for us to continue to publish in print just isn't there anymore."

EGM has lost many of its staff members this year including former Editor-in-Chief Dan Hsu. Just about all of the staff from Games For Windows magazine have also left 1up including the former Editor-in-Chief Jeff Green who left 1up to work for EA, and Shawn Elliot who left 1up to work at 2k Boston.

They'll give you a choice of some other magazines to get issue of for your remaining subscription period. They'll probably sell the subscriber list to some other publishers too. That's what they did with GFW.

I just noticed that I stopped getting games for windows and started getting EGM a couple of months ago. Funny I just noticed. Never got any notification of GFW going out of business. Now it seems EGM is going the same way. Guess I better call these maggots before they cut me off without compensating me in some way.
