Odyssey 500

This is the same as the Odyssey 400, except it comes with an extra game and color graphics.

Re: Odyssey 500

What sport does "smash" represent, football?  Wrestling?

The machine itself doesn't actually look all that dated, besides the fake woodgrain in the center.

Re: Odyssey 500

It's pretty cherry, I just bought it.  I had a 500 at one point in the past and sold it because I thought I had a dupe.  (Which was actually a 3000)  So I just picked up this one which completed my Odyssey collection.

I don't know what Smash is.  Some variant of pong.

Re: Odyssey 500

Is it hard to come by stuff still with the original packaging?  Especially to get the packaging in minty fresh shape?  I know with Transformers, having something MISB can increase the value almost 10-fold.

Pretty much anything that is complete and in the box is really rare.  They go for a lot of money when they get listed on Ebay.  Stuff from the 70's and 80's almost never comes in the box.  I don't even remember what a Sega Genesis box looks like.  You almost never see one on Ebay.

Re: Odyssey 500

Sweetness, I actually still have my Genesis box.  Though it was the 2nd model and not the original.  I wonder if it's worth some dough?

Mine had the red sides I think, and show the Genesis on black suede or something.  The Sega CD box I have is similar, except in blue if I remember correctly.

I had a SNES box, but used it to ship something to Japan a few years back.  I don't think I can remember what a Atari box looks like though...

Re: Odyssey 500

Well if it's a CORE system or the Genesis 3 you won't get much for it right now.  The Genesis was really popular.  It also hasn't hit the point yet where it has started to appreciate in value.  Consoles tend to go for less than what you paid for them until they reach a certain age and then that price can rise, depending on the condition.

Having accessories really helps.  For instance the Master System expansion with the 3D glasses is bigger money than just the Genesis itself.

I'd sit on it for as long as possible.  In another ten years it'll be worth significantly more than it is today.  But no system is worth tons of money.  The holy grail is The Adventurevision.  A mint, unopened, system with all the games unopened and sealed would fetch between 5,000 to 10,000 dollars max.  Most every other system is well below $1000.  But every year their value increases.
